I thoroughly enjoyed his first novel, "Appalachian Command," and was blown away by this second adventure in Dan Santos novels, which unfolds around Denver, Colorado. The action scenes in "Insurrection: Mile-High Blood" are among the very best I've ever read, showcasing his mastery of military fiction. Dan Santos may very well write some of the most exquisitely detailed action scenes on the planet. He brings his military expertise to this political thriller in a way that makes for heart-thumping reading, offering novelistic realism that matches and often exceeds that of the best military novels ever written. Whether it's Norman Mailer's "The Naked and the Dead" or Tim O'Brien's "Lake in the Woods," it doesn't get any better than this. A must-read for anyone who follows the world's news or for the reader who enjoys military detail, action, and the foibles of the human condition. Five incredibly well-deserved stars. Kudos, kudos, kudos.

Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2022 Verified Purchase I not only enjoyed meeting and talking to the author, Dan Santos, but I also thoroughly enjoyed discussing his first novel, which is a captivating blend of military fiction and political thriller. I liked the style and story so much that I downloaded the second book in the series. I plan to purchase the third one later, especially since Dan mentioned he may write a fourth installment. I'm looking forward to it! Additionally, as we own a sweet little poodle, I may also read his wonderful dog book.
