Mile-High Blood

Freedom fighters who have taken up the struggle against the first American dictator select a civilian president as a first step to a return to democratic governance in the US. The civilian is meant to temporarily replace the dictator who has had a firm hold on the eastern states since Washington’s fall after a devastating terror attack. To stay in power, the dictator has even made a deal with units of China’s People’s Liberation Army to occupy the West Coast under the pretext of safeguarding China’s multitrillion-dollar US investment. At a pivotal moment, elite Chinese Marines acting on behalf of the dictator abduct the freedom fighters’ president. Kate, the former Military Police Officer commanding the president’s Israeli protective detail, is also captured in the ambush.

Jude, the once Army Ranger leading the Appalachian Command’s special operations troops, mounts a rescue mission teaming up with a Medal of Honor–winning Marine veteran. But, despite intense mountain warfare, they fail to liberate the president.

While the presidential rescue fight centers on the struggle in the Rockies, the broader insurgency makes gains back East, with Rebel forces pushing northward from D.C. and putting Greco’s army on the defensive. Sensing his grip slipping, the dictator strikes back, viciously murdering a freedom fighter whose loss is deeply personal to Jude.

Despite the killing of the beloved freedom fighter, Americans remain committed to reclaiming their homeland from both the dictator and the foreign invaders.

5.0 out of 5 stars MILE-HIGH BLOOD IS A REAL PAGE TURNER!

Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2015 Dan Santos has another "page turner" on his hands. Insurrection: Mile-High Blood is an exceptional read and brings back memories to me as military combat veteran. His prose concerning equipment, tactics and the day to day repartee between warriors is spot on. I can't wait to read the third in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Beat This One Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2015 Verified Purchase Who better to write a novel about a military and diplomatic catastrophe than Dan Santos, a man who has "been there and done that."... I thoroughly enjoyed his first novel, "Appalachian Command," and was blown away by this second novel, which takes place around Denver, Colorado... the action scenes in "Insurrection: Mile-High Blood" are among the very best I've ever read. Dan Santos may very well write some of the best military (exquisitely detailed) action scenes on the planet... Dan Santos brings his military expertise to this novel in a way that makes for heart-thumping reading and novelistic realism that matches and often exceeds that of the best military novels ever written: whether it's Norman Mailer's "The Naked and the Dead" or Tim O'Brian's "Lake in the Woods" it doesn't get any better than this. A must-read for anyone who follows the world's news or for the reader who enjoys military detail, action, and the foibles of the human condition. Five incredibly well-deserved stars. Kudos, kudos, kudos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Met Dan Santos on a Zoom book club meeting

Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2022 Verified Purchase Not only enjoyed meeting and talking to the author but thoroughly enjoyed his first novel which we discussed. I liked the style and story so much that I downloaded the second book in the series. I plan to purchase the third one later. Dan mentioned he may write a fourth installment. Looking forward to it. Since we own a sweet little poodle, I may also read his wonderful dog book.
