Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2019 Verified Purchase If you are a dog lover, this is a book for you. Loving, caring, touching, and surprisingly funny at times, Letters from Blitz explores the depths of our love for the man’s best friend. The book is a tribute to that unbroken bond that too often is cut short and we are left that unavoidable part of life, with grief. We don’t fully recover from it, but that’s ok. And, as the book shows, there are no shortcuts in this process, but the story of Blitz and his relationship with the author, offers a touching and intimate look at this deeply human emotion. As we begin to read trough the letters between Blitz, Lars, and Maggie, we soon find out that grieving is an emotion that, too, is familiar to our furry friends. This book is very endearing to me. I am in my fifth year of adventures with my Brittany Spaniel, and each year I learn something new about my dog and and about myself. If you truly want to understand what unconditional love is, this book is for you. It is an intimate account of love, and loss, but mostly, a celebration of that unbreakable bond between us and our furry friends.
Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2019 Verified Purchase First, let me confess that I am a dog lover and a sucker for movies and stories about dogs, from Old Yeller to A Dog’s Purpose to Marley and Me. Well, Dan Santos’ new book, Letters from Blitz, ranks right up there with those stories. It’s a story of loss, love and redemption that will make you cry and laugh. I know, I’m a guy and not supposed to cry, but I did tear up in places. But don’t worry, in the end this is not a gloomy story. Anyway, if you love dogs, this is a must read. If you love cats, I still think you’ll love this story! And if you don’t love dogs, well, shame on you.

Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2021 Verified Purchase The beginning of the book was difficult to get through as I had recently lost a Weimaraner who guarded my soul. Once he was gone I felt I needed help so I asked my husband to get this book for me for Christmas. Reading about Blitz’s discoveries at the Rainbow Bridge put me there with my Maverick. The tears slowed as Blitz tried to find a way to tell his dad he was OK and no longer in pain. My own pain was soothed as I hoped the same was true for my Maverick. I’m sure if I relapse into sorrow I will once again pick up this lovely book to soothe my troubled soul.
Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2021I am not a person that usually reads the fantasy genre, but a friend, knowing that I am a dog lover, recommend this to me. You can tell that the author also loves his animal companions and has deep insight into their personalities. Even if, like me, your beliefs lean more toward the secular, you will find yourself swept up into the story and perhaps develop understanding of what believers are talking about when they say their friend has crossed Rainbow Bridge.
This book left me with both a tear in my eyes and a smile on my face. Mr. Santos weaves a good tale.

Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2021 Verified Purchase Dan Santos has written a gem of a book, an instant classic. The reader will be charmed right from the start with our main character, Blitz, a most affable Weimaraner. Santos gives us a thoroughly realized character with universal and distinctive traits, and an uncanny doggy voice. Blitz loves his humans, his Mommy and Daddy. This is heartbreakingly beautiful. This is an easygoing and direct narrative. Blitz is in heaven now but his journey has just begun! The idea of having Blitz communicate through "letters" is inventive and utterly engaging. I think it is safe to say this novella ranks right up with the classic, Jonathan Livingston Seagull. May we always cherish and look out for our fellow animal friends.
