Best known for Letters from Blitz, the fictional account of a beloved dog’s struggles at the Rainbow Bridge, Dan Santos is passionate about entertaining the readers with fast-paced suspense and surprising plot twists.
His three-book trilogy Insurrection tells the story of the first American dictator and the men and women who fought him. Appalachian Command, the first book of the trilogy, sets the scene for the catastrophic terrorist attack that destroys our government and kills off the entire presidential succession lineup. It has been compared to the blockbuster TV series Designated Survivor…except it was written three years before the show premiered. And that’s where the similarities end. Mile-High Blood and Tiger Legion continued and closed the Insurrection series, capturing the reader’s imagination with their fast-paced realism and surprising endings. Insurrection was so shocking that it took the US government over three months to allow its publication, a legal requirement because Dan had held the highest security clearances in the nation.
Letters from Blitz, a sentimental novella about Dan’s faithful Weimaraner dog, was recognized in three Amazon best-selling categories. Readers wrote it made them cry and laugh simultaneously, recalling their own dogs' antics. They applauded Blitz’s success in persuading heavenly authorities to improve the lot of those who waited to reunite with their earthly families and giving hope to those who did not have human families to greet at the Rainbow Bridge.
Dan is currently negotiating the publication of a middle-grade story about an abused boy and his dog based on real events and a history-based novel about the role of organized crime in a political assassination.

"First, let me confess that I am a dog lover and a sucker for movies and stories about dogs, from Old Yeller to A Dog’s Purpose to Marley and Me. Well, Dan Santos’ new book, Letters from Blitz, ranks right up there with those stories. It’s a story of loss, love and redemption that will make you cry and laugh. I know, I’m a guy and not supposed to cry, but I did tear up in places. But don’t worry, in the end this is not a gloomy story. Anyway, if you love dogs, this is a must read. If you love cats, I still think you’ll love this story! And if you don’t love dogs, well, shame on you."

"Insurrection: Appalachian Command is a frightening apocalyptic read about America's nightmare come true--the destruction of our governmental infrastructure and the take-over by Al Qaeda terrorists. It reminded me a bit of the movie "Red Dawn" but it's better, and Dan Santos has the military and government service background that enables him to write this story. A gripping read that I finished in two sittings. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the state of our world today and the threats facing America. A must-read!"

"Perhaps the most unique aspect of the Insurrection series is the fact that readers will care as much about the characters in the novel as they do about the ultimate insurrection, since the fates of the main characters, Jude and Kate, especially, are intimately tied to the fate of our country...Santos' treatment of the relationship between Jude and Kate is handled with a unique cleverness and freshness as he toys with and teases the reader, who is hungering for the climactic moment of their relationship, which is delicately and tastefully delineated throughout the series and ultimately completed in Tiger. The reader will hope that as order in the world is restored that the destiny of Jude and Kate will be fulfilled."

A note about the "Insurrection" series. It is not based on current events. I wrote it between 2013 and 2015. It deals with a fictitious tyrant and the American freedom fighters who tried to unseat him. My many years serving our country taught me to be politically neutral.
